[Witch Way] Volume #2 Issue #5 -- BOO!
October 13, 2009
Hi, Happy Samhain!

Ken's Korner

I thought the Summer was busy, but it seems that Fall has kept me jumping even more! I’ve spent the last several weeks working on a new service being offered by Jupiter Rising Astrological Services, through CyberWitchcraft. Amalthea’s Horn takes the Transit reports we’ve been offering here in Jim Trader’s regular Chiron’s Lyre column, and makes them personal.

Basically, you give Jim your Birth information, and he will send out email reports to you that are specific to you. What this means is that you can now get specific warnings of what you can expect to happen within the next few days of getting the email.

Best of all, it’s personalized to you. Because no two people are affected exactly the same way by a particular transit, you can now get the information you need, to plan your best course of action.

You can choose to get individual emails a day or two ahead of the event, or you can get one email containing all the information for an entire week. I am really excited to be a part of this because this is useful information that no one else offers!

You should really take a look at Amalthea’s Horn.

I have also spent some time working on a new section, adding forums to CyberWitchcraft. You’ve got questions about Witchcraft. You want to meet other Witches near you. Now you have a tool you can use for both!

Get to know the people who visit CyberWitchcraft, find a teacher, find students, learn about your Craft. It’s all possible with the forums.

The forums have just gone online, so I am the only person who has posted anything in them so far. This is your chance to be seen. You can create a profile, add an image, give contact information and more.

Social Networking seems to be taking over the Internet, and this is just one more step toward making CyberWitchcraft the ultimate source for information and community. Now you can become a member of the CyberWitchcraft family! It’s free to join, so why not? Learn more from the CyberWitchcraft Spotlight section of this issue.

Another project I’ve been working on should be available soon.

I’ve been working on a recording I’m calling, 7 Secrets Of A Successful Witch. This recording, which is looking to be over three and a half hours in length, will give you the seven things I’ve learned over the last 20 years that will make you a more successful Witch.

We all want things in our life, love, money, success. This will tell you how to get those things. These are the lessons I’ve learned, and I’ll be giving them to you so you don’t have to spend 20 years learning them.

Look for an email telling you how to get your copy of 7 Secrets Of A Successful Witch, in the near future.

Enjoy this Samhain issue of Witch Way, and I’ll see you again next month (unless I see you on the forums first).

Blessed Be,

A Monthly Column For Astrological Insight

Mid-October to mid-November of this year looks to be mostly a time of long-term shifts that won’t necessarily display immediate effects.

Still, it’s important to keep track of these things in the same way it’s important to keep track of the change of the seasons. If you know it’s November (and you live in Colorado), it’s not such a big surprise to have 60 degree temperatures one day and a dusting of snow the next.

In the same sense, keeping an eye on the long-term shifts I’ll be talking about in this month’s column will prepare you for sudden “changes in the weather” in the coming months that will catch other people off-guard.

That having been said, one transit that will probably display immediate effects (along with long-term consequences) is the square Mars will make as it enters Libra to Pluto in early Capricorn. Lasting from Oct. 14th through the 16th, this is a thankfully short-lived transit.

While this transit can be quite beneficial when handled properly, there are few transits that are as potentially dangerous as this one if not handled properly. First and foremost, the potential for any kind of violence is very high at this time, so avoid violent places and violent people as they will likely be on more of a “hair-trigger” than normal.

Also be aware of another possible manifestation of this transit, which is that you may find you are on more of a hair-trigger. Make sure your temper doesn’t get the better of you during these three days. If it does, you may acquire one or more powerful and enduring enemies.

Secondly, Mars squaring Pluto indicates a time of conflicting ambitions. Many of us may find there is something during this three day period that we suddenly and absolutely must change or do, but find ourselves forced to work directly against others or those in power in order reach our goals.

Some of us may find that during these three days our ongoing “agenda” is interfered with significantly by people or power-structures in our lives that were previously on board with what we were doing, or at least content with not interfering.

Whichever side of this equation we find ourselves, there may be a very great temptation to take “shortcuts” in the form of dishonest or temporary solutions that yield immediate results.

In other words, the temptation to “cheat” will be very strong.

Cheating may indeed prove profitable, but only until mid-December of which point, Mars will conjunct Pluto, and whatever scheme we put into place now will lead to some form of unavoidable violence then.

Even if you are confronting whatever your task is honestly and directly, double-check to be sure that those you are dealing with are doing the same. If they are not, compromise may not be possible, and it is advisable to sever the relationship.

As hard as it may be, it is best during this Mars-Pluto square to face our problems and our opponents directly, and form an honest and complete compromise that benefits all people involved.

Which brings us to the third thing to remember about this transit: Don’t leave any loose ends. Although compromise with others is usually the best course during this transit, any solutions that are found should be solid and permanent ones. If they are not, the devil in these details will reappear later and unavoidably collect his due.

Although this transit certainly represents a time of great risk, just keeping one’s head down is probably not an option. Long-term needs that have been neglected can no longer be ignored, and with the proper handling of this Mars-Pluto square, there is a real chance that these needs can finally be satisfied.

On a less melodramatic note, there are two planets going direct (appearing to move forward in their orbit again after a time of being “retrograde,” or appearing to move backwards) during the mid-October to mid-November time period.

These two planets are Jupiter and Neptune, both currently in Aquarius. Jupiter will go direct late in the day on October 13th, and will be direct until late July of 2010. Neptune will go direct November 5th and will remain so until the end of May 2010.

When a Planet is retrograde, it often indicates a time of delay and reevaluation in many people’s lives of the activities influenced by that planet.

When the Planet goes direct, as Jupiter and Neptune are about to do, things under those Planets’ influence that seemed “stuck” during the time of reevaluation start to move forward again (and move forward more smoothly, if the reevaluation time was spent in reevaluation and preparation, not wasted in frustration).

Due to the fact Jupiter and Neptune both are slow-moving, the effect of the two going direct may not be felt immediately by most. The effects of these Planets going direct are much more subtle and gradual than Mercury going direct for example, but are often all the more powerful for being unnoticed.

Jupiter rules expansion, excess, good fortune, and legal issues. Neptune rules escapism of all kinds, uncertainty, ideals, and intuition. Both Planets have an influence on religion; Jupiter has more of an influence on the practice of religion, Neptune on the internalization of religious beliefs.

While these two Planets are not currently conjunct and therefore do not directly reinforce each other, both these Planets are in the same Sign— Aquarius, and are going direct at the same time, and so the effects of the two of them going direct are going occur in the same areas of people’s lives and happen at about the same time while not being directly related.

Jupiter going direct in Aquarius indicates that through next summer, although many of us may not noticeably increase our incomes or material status, we will encounter more “lucky breaks” that help us to do more with less.

As an example of this, the current legal debate in the real-estate world on the ability of a company called MERS to foreclose on people’s homes may expand, giving many homeowners a “lucky break”.

This may provide those who are behind and “underwater” on their mortgages (a mortgage is “underwater” when the mortgage is worth more than the house) leverage on the banking industry, allowing these homeowners to lower their monthly payments and so stay in homes that a year ago would have been foreclosed upon.

Since Jupiter is in Aquarius, the Sign of big ideas executed in individual packages, like the MERS situation most “breaks” during this time will allow both a greater measure of personal freedom and the realization of long-term social goals, often for a large group of otherwise-disempowered people.

Neptune going direct in Aquarius indicates that our detachment from those around us and our attachment to material success are both going through a process of dissolution. In other words, between October and May, we may find ourselves growing more attached to those around us, and less attached to the idea that buying power equals success.

One of the defining characteristics of a Neptune experience is that it always has a “hangover”. Neptune encourages us to escape from consensus reality, and when we return, there is always disorientation and often pain.

This is apparent in the hangover after a bout of drinking, the disorientation we feel when looking away from a movie screen, or even the grogginess most of us feel when waking up in the morning...all situations ruled by Neptune. In the case of Neptune, the retrograde period can sometimes delay the inevitable return to reality. This appears to have been the case this year.

While Neptune has been retrograde, the U.S. stock market has had an incredible rally in price with no change in companies’ profitability to support it.

Therefore there is a good likelihood that this rally--along with other “escapes” from consensus reality that have become popular since this past May such as the perception of “green shoots” of financial recovery or the Hope that the Obama administration would bring real Change regarding any of his campaign promises—will probably come to a quiet but final end between November 2009 and May 2010.

Financial speculation may be very tempting during this time, but is best avoided. The positive side of Neptune direct is that it allows us to cast off old “visions,” and find new ones. In the Sign of Aquarius, those new visions will probably involve “the greatest good for the greatest number” in a very individualized way.

Any large-scale change that happens will seem to happen almost by accident rather than by design. There will be the sense that “it’s time for a change,” rather than there being a particular person or group that others rally around to make change happen.

And finally, beginning November 2nd and lasting through early December Saturn will do what Mars did in October and enter Libra, squaring Pluto in Capricorn in the process.

This transit thankfully does not have the potential for violence that the Mars-Pluto square does. It will, however, last much longer and have its own effects.

Many of us may find ourselves confronted by a lack of resources during this time. Money and other things we believe we should have will not be available to us, and we will have to adjust to this fact.

This holiday season many of us may be getting in touch with how attached we actually are to getting presents as well as giving them, and have to come to grips with exchanging more affection and fewer gifts with our loved ones. Those who are determined to maintain themselves “in their accustomed style” may have to resort to underhanded means to do so.

Like the Mars-Pluto square, doing so may create enemies. Unlike the Mars-Pluto square, it is much less likely dishonest schemes will work at all. Also unlike the Mars-Pluto square, this transit will persist on-and-off until August of 2010; it is better to tighten one’s belt if financial set-backs occur during this time than try to regain one’s previous income level.

Repeated attempts to “beat the system” during this time will probably both end in failure and excite the wrath of the authorities. Belt-tightening, on the other hand, brings out the positive side of this transit: A discovery that most of what we think we need we merely want, and that the things we really need are both inexpensive and worth working for.

Enjoy the change of seasons. Remember to dress warmly, let your loved ones know you love them, and get ready to see life in a whole new way by next summer.

Time of The Season

Last year I opened this column with “Welcome to Death, I hope you enjoy it!” (Volume 1 Issue #5 ). People don’t like to be reminded that death is the price of life. We turn our fears into playful traditions. We make our nightmares into farcical costumes so that we don’t really need to face them. Samhain (pronounced Sow-in) is about Death. We see Death everywhere we look. The trees are losing their leaves. The blooms of Summer are gone. All that’s left is the dead and dying. This is the Season of Death.

Most people dress up in outlandish costumes and use it as an excuse for a party, never knowing or understanding why. This is the time of year when all the media outlets want to find a “Real” Witch to interview. It’s the one time of the year when it’s cool to be a Witch.

Last year at this time I explained the origins of Halloween, then at Yule, we started our year-long spell. We’ve reached the end of the spell now. Time to harvest whatever it was that you have been working toward.

If you’ve been working diligently, and attentively, you should be ready to manifest whatever it is you’ve been working for, if you haven’t already. If you are to this point, you don’t need me to tell you how to manifest it. If everything has gone right, it will be obvious how to grab what you’ve been working on getting.

If it is not obvious how to get there from here, you most likely either haven’t been doing all the steps over the last year, or you tried for more than you really believe you should have. Thinking big is not a bad thing. In either case, you can try again next year. The issues are available on CyberWitchcraft.

HarvestThis is the time of year we harvest our crop, and stack the sheaves in preparation for clearing the fields for next year. The image is about as traditional as you can get for this time of year in America. If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, you’re just starting Spring, and have several months of warm weather to look forward to.

Go out and enjoy your parties, give candy to the kids who come to your door, and face Death at your Samhain ritual. When you start to understand a thing, it no longer holds fear for you.

CyberWitchcraft Spotlight

We have opened up a new forum area on CyberWitchcraft. Since a large percentage of the email we get asks about contacting other Witches and Pagans, we decided to do what we can to help out. If you live in the Denver area, we can point you to the local community, but if you live anywhere else, we have little or no information to give you.

With forums, you have the chance to not only learn about others who may be near you, but it also gives everyone a chance to learn from and teach others about The Craft. We know that there are many people who visit CyberWitchcraft who have knowledge and experience of Witchcraft and other Pagan Paths. There are many more who are looking for that information. It is our hope that the CyberWitchcraft forums will become a place where people can give and get that information.

To that end, we have started two sections in the forums, one where beginners can ask questions and get answers to basic questions such as what a Witch is, or what it takes to be a Witch. The second section is for more advanced topics. Once you know how to do ritual, what comes next? These are the things this section is for.

As the forums become more active, it is inevitable that more forums and sections will be added to meet demand for information. We don’t know what those will be until you start asking the questions. One of the possibilities is an area for online classes, taught by experienced teachers of the Craft. We know that finding a teacher can be difficult, so if there is a demand we will add that.

We have set up a poll on the forums to ask if people want to take classes. You must create a User ID and account in order to vote in the poll, or post messages. Guests can only look at the forums. To create a User ID, simply Register, it’s free!

The forums can be found in the Pagan Community section of CyberWitchcraft, or you can go directly to the logon page. You’ll want to bookmark the logon page in your web browser so that you can get to the forums without the need to navigate through the entire site.

Be one of the first to log in and make your mark on the CyberWitchcraft forums!
