Ok,
first I have to tell you that I'm not an astrologer, or Astrologist, as
those who get paid large sums of money, call themselves.
Fortunately for me, and you, I do know a few astrologers who
have
been willing to write some articles for this section of CyberWitchcraft.
One of the things you learn very quickly about Witchcraft,
is that you will hone your research skills. There are
resources
all over the Internet, our job at CyberWitchcraft, is to bring them to
a single place for
your convenience.
Astrology has always had a reputation for being confusing.
Propbably more so than any other form of divination. The
following articles are meant to explain some of the aspects of
astrology, and hopefully demystify it just a little.
History of Astrology
It's always a good idea to know something of the
history of anything you wish to study. The History of
Astrology is long and involved, so it has
been broken up into two parts.
History
of
Astrology Part 1
delves deep into the mists of time, starting with
the Ubaidians, an ancient
civilization of the Middle East, and how those civilizations used the
stars to
foretell events to come.
History
of
Astrology Part 2
relates how the science of astrology was
used by the Renaissance. How it lost favor, the failure of
"The
Great Conjunction", and brings that history up to modern day.
How Astrology Is Used
One of the basic concepts in astrology is the Horoscope. Just
what
is a
horoscope,
and how is it used? As you've learned in the History of
Astrology, the Horoscope is a relatively new development of the art.
There
is a debate about how effective astrology really is, because most
astrologers use the same calculations that the ancients did.
Unfortunately, due to the wobble in the Earth's orbit, the
stars
are no longer where they once were. The argument between Tropical vs. Sidereal
Astrology continues today...
So what does this have to do with Witchcraft?
Lunar Magick
and using the phases of the moon is one of the most basic components of
magick. Magickal
timing is all based on astrology...

Reading Charts
Reading an astrological chart is a little like inventing a new recipe:
You have to know how all the ingredients you are going to use taste, as
well as how they all taste together, in order to come up with something
that works well.
If Signs provide a general idea of what is happening in a particular
part of a chart, Planets provide the specifics. Everything in a chart
except the Planets are abstractions painted by the minds of astrologers
on the canvas of space...
In the previous two articles, I have referred several times to “where,”
“what area,” or “what part” of a chart a particular Sign or Planet is
in. Houses are what define “area” in a chart...
An Aspect is the indication that one part of the chart is affecting
another part of the chart; therefore Aspects are relationships between
other things in the chart...
Now we look at Transits. What
are transits?
They are a specific, time-limited celestial
event
with a noticeable effect here on Earth. Understanding when
and
what the effect will be, can help you avoid unpleasant events.
Signs are the twelve constellations
visible
in the sky that appear to form a ring (the Zodiac) around the earth,
and appear
to revolve with the seasons. These are the most basic part of any astrology chart.
If
Signs
provide a general idea of what is happening in a
particular part of a chart, Planets provide the specifics. Everything
in a
chart except the Planets (Signs,
Houses
and their Cusps, and Aspects)
are
abstractions painted by the minds of astrologers on the canvas of
space.
In
the
previous two articles, I have referred several times to “where,” “what
area,”
or “what part” of a chart a particular Sign or Planet is in. Houses are
what
define “area” in a chart.
An
“Aspect” is the indication that one part of the
chart
is affecting another part of the chart; therefore Aspects are
relationships
between other things in the chart, rather than anything that has
independent
existence.
