What are Witchcraft Basic Beliefs?

Witchcraft basic beliefs are simple and fairly straight forward.

There is no book of rules such as other major religions have. We have no equivalent to the Bible, the Qur’an, or the Torah. The rules that we try to live by are in the Rede.

Our beliefs come from a simpler time, though there is no archeological evidence of any unbroken chain of beliefs handed down generation after generation.

Because we are not bound by a book that (its believers would have us think) never changes, our Spiritual Path is alive and ever changing to fit life in the modern world.

We strive to live in harmony with the natural world around us.

After a couple of centuries of Industrial Civilization dumping waste freely, and creating climatic changes, it only seems logical that we should try to work within the rules of nature, and not against them.

We look at all the creatures of the planet, and we see that there are two genders.

So we look at Deity, and we see male and female, both a God and a Goddess. It just seems natural. After all, Man has always created God in his own image, not the other way around.

We believe that people are basically good, if given the chance.

We also notice that those who do good things usually find good things come back around to them. Those who consistently do bad things find that bad things happen to them more often than not.

There is balance in all things.

We notice that when a person encounters difficulty in life, there is always a lesson to be learned from it.

This is what one Priestess I know calls an A.F.G.E. which simply means, (and I’m paraphrasing here) Another Frakking Growth Experience.

They’re no fun when you’re going through one, but looking back afterward, you always seem to come out the other side better, for having gone through it.

Our Gods are neither pure good, nor pure evil, unlike those of other religious Paths. We understand that you cannot have one without the other.

There can be no shadow without light, there can be no male without female, and there can be no evil without good.

All are inextricably linked to the other.

Witchcraft Beliefs don’t allow for any being to be responsible for any other. Our Gods cannot remove our ‘Sins’, only we can do that for ourselves.

Each of us is responsible for ourselves, and our actions. We can’t claim that “The Devil made me do it!”.

Not because we don’t believe in that particular Christian Demi-God, but because above all, we must each take responsibility for everything we choose to do.

We use the Redeto remind us to harm none, including ourselves as best we can, and the Three-fold Law to remind us that there is no action without consequence.

You can’t live without harming something. The very act of eating must kill, even if it’s a plant. So everything you do, must be with the thought of are you willing to pay the price?

Once you start asking that question, and looking for what the price might be, you start to open yourself to a much bigger world.

Life is no longer just about you, it’s about everyone and everything else. Once you start to think about the cost, you also start to realize your responsibility.
