Grounding is not only good for before and after ritual but to aid in stablizing you over all. I personally think of it the same way I think of how a car battery works. You have to have something for the energy to link and flow to, otherwise it becomes unstable. grounding is not only great for ritual but too can truly help people who are having a hard time focusing their thoughts. It gives the energy a safe place to flow too. It isn't so much 'getting rid of' as it is making sure that we are proper conductors.

Grounding is sometimes needed, to relax you, or to get your ready for ritual, and after ritual. Sometimes I just ground when I'm feeling tense and for no other reason. If you self- monitor and find you are jittery or high, then ground. If ritual didn't do much for you that day, you might not be high at all. It depends on how much energy you raised. Sometimes I try to do something psychic on the fly and find I don't have the psychic 'mojo' to do it. Then I try grounding and it often helps. So, in my opinion, no, it's not necessary, but highly recommended, and something you'll *want* to do sometimes.

In my experience I have found that when I do not ground I can end up "high" or with a headache. also, I do not have any use for the excess energy from ritual. If I do not need it, there is no sense in having it.
