Money

by Magen Elizabeth
(Sanger, Texas)

I notice a lot with magical rites and spells that you need quite a lot of materials, such as herbs, oils, incense, candles, altar tools, etc.. How does one afford these necessities? I myself am from a poor household and have no transportation of my own.

Requiring certain materials isn't easy to come by for me so I was just curious what others do given the fact that I know I am not alone in this problem. I do make do with the herbs and candles I already have in my cabinets but what little supplies I have are starting to dwindle each time I find a use for them. What can I do?

I agree with Ken 100percent, but darned if I dont have a practical, Virgo mind. Yknow, been there. I use what i have in the house or find in nature. I made a wand from a branch, I had dads Scout knife to remove the bark and twigs, and found sand paper in my dads tool chest. I used the base of a terra cotta flower pot found in the trash in the alley and a marking pen to make my pentacle, when it broke I found a smooth rock and used a permanent marker to draw the star. 20 years later, I still have and use the rock, and love my wand. It vibrates in my hand after all these years. My herb of choice is mint...it grows wild in the alley now because I planted it years ago, but I do buy it now at the grocery store. I use it because it has multiple properties of cleansing, psychism, abundance, healing and protection, and I use plain olive oil to hold the psychic charge and for anointing. Olive has healing, fertility and strength properties. works too.

A Pinch of This, A Dash of That

Magen,

Any book, or website that tells you that you must use this ingredient, or that tool, isn't worth reading.

You don't need tools to do ritual, and you don't need ingredients to work magick. They're all props. They are for the person who is new enough that they want something physical to focus on, or the person foolish enough to believe everything they read.

Ritual only requires heart and mind. Magick requires only will and intent. They may not be free, but they don't cost any money.
