The Pentagram - Sign of Evil?


What is the true meaning of the pentagram? People are telling me that it is a symbol of evil, But I really don't belive that. If someone could give me an answer, that would be great!

The symbol of the 5-pointed star can be found on clay tablets dating back to around 1000 B.C.E. in Ancient Babylon.

The Greek philosopher Pythagoras (~500-600 B.C.E)founded a school in Southern Italy, where students wore rings with a pentagram inscribed in a circle (pentacle) and bearing the Greek word for "health." To them, the pentagram was a symbol of physical and mental harmony.

The 19th century French occultist Eliphas Levi incorporated the symbolism of the dominion of Spirit over the other 4 elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water into that of the pentagram. (See J.M. Greer's The New Encyclopedia of the Occult)

This is even explained on this site. The pentagram represents Spirit (the deities, and the divine) and then the Quarters, Earth, Air, Water, and Fire.

THE PENTAGRAM, I BELIEVE IT TO BE A SYMBOL OF PROTECTION THAT'S USUALLY WHY IT'S SOMETIMES USED IN THE CIRCLE LIKE UP TOP. lIKE THE FOUR ELEMENTS AND THE SPIRIT IT IS MEANT TO HELP PROTECT THE CONNECTION AND YOU SO NO HARM GETS IN OR CONTAMINATES THE GROUND. THAT IS ALSO WHY SOMETIMES INSCENCE IS USED TO PURIFY THE GROUNDS IN WHICH THE RITUAL IS TO BE ON. BUT I'M NO PROFFESIONAL I AM JUST TELLING YOU WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE TRUE.

I'm not sure, but i have found, that when pentagrams are pointing downvards, people seem to belive it is a sign of evil, and I think thats why they think so, eaven if its pointing upwards. But I can understand that thing with pointin downvards, becouse it seems to be "wrong" and it seems to point at the devil, or Hades or whatever you belive in.
