Please explain "drawing down?" Different schools might differ.

I have been a solo practitioner for 49 years and Priestess of a small coven for a short time and it's been awhile since.

I'd love to hear a consensus of current thoughts.

Common Terms
by: Ken

Drawing Down, (or more completely, Drawing Down The Moon) is a term that comes from the beginning of Modern Witchcraft. Gerald Gardner helped his Priestesses Draw Down, so it shouldn't be a surprise that it has a common meaning.

What is Drawing Down?
by: Ken

I've always been taught, and I have taught and practiced, that Drawing Down is where the Priest or Priestess invites the God or Goddess to use their body as a vessel for the Divine.

Usually that is done so that those who either don't realize they can talk to the Gods, or have no interest in becoming clergy, can speak directly to the God or Goddess, and get answers to their questions.

Drawing Down is an advanced skill that should only be attempted by those who have the maturity and understanding to attempt it.

The ritual is usually very powerful, and results in a lot of crying by those who go before the Gods. At least, that has been my experience.
